Two Cases of Anti-E Hemolytic Disease of Newborn in a Brother & Sister

Abstract
The isoimmune hemolytic disease of the newborn infant due to the incompatability of minor blood groups is characterized by the progressive neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and anemia caused by the IgG antibody transmitted from the mother to the fetus.
A one-day old baby boy was admitted due to severe jaundice and anemia which were developed at birth. His sister had been admitted about a year earlier with similar symptoms. The blood type of their mother was A, CCDee and that of their father was
A,
ccDEE. The mother's serum indirect antiglobulin test was strongly positive. The blood types of the brother and sister newborn infants were also strongly positive. The titer of anti-E was 1:32 in the mother and 1:2 in the brother. The baby girl
was
treated with both an exachange transfusion and phototherapy and the baby boy was treated with only phototherapy due to early detection of his symptoms.
This case is detailed and includes a brief review of relevant materials.
